Big Numbers
Transition from 1-digit to 2-digit multiplication with ease! In this activity we explore place value to help students easily transfer their 1-digit multiplication skills, along with the distributive property, to 2-digits!
The Wizard
Jump into Numberville in this interactive digital game to help students transition to 2-digit multiplication using the distributive property. Enlarge your confidence as you cast spells, increase your number sense, and multiply with ease.
The Area Model
Ready to introduce multi-digit multiplication to your students? In this article we breakdown the Area Model providing key information on the mathematics behind the method, when and how to introduce the Area Model to Students, and the pros and cons teachers and parents must consider.
The Lattice Method
Ready to introduce multi-digit multiplication to your students? In this article we breakdown the Lattice Method providing key information on the mathematics behind the method, when and how to introduce the Lattice Method to students, and the pros and cons teachers and parents must consider.

MathBait™ Multiplication
Combining all the best elements of the many multiplication models, we are excited to introduce MathBait™ Multiplication! This method not only helps students build a strong foundation in the distributive property and grouping, but it also builds insane levels of number sense helping students to deeply understand products, easily compute, and prepares them for algebra and multiplying unknown values and polynomials.
What Are Napier's Bones?
How can playing with a multiplication table lead to an outstanding invention? Dive into mathematical history to learn more about Napier's Bones, why they work, and their creator, while providing your students with a burst of inspiration!
Create Your Own Bones!
Napier's Bones are a powerful tool! Playing with the bones helps build fluency and is an excellent introduction to multi-digit multiplication as students develop a deep understanding of place value and what is happening when we use methods such as the standard algorithm. Have your students build their own set of bones with the help of our step-by-step project guide or print out our downloadable set of bones.
Multiply with Napier's Bones
Learn how to find difficult products fast with this incredible tool that supports both calculation and understanding.
Divide with Napier's Bones
Division and multiplication are really synonymous. As students advance they will learn dividing by 3 is akin to multiply by 1/3. Thus, the powerful multiplication ability of Napier's Bones can be extended into division as well! In this activity we'll show you how to harness the strength of the bones to find quotients as well!
The Digital Bones
Explore mathematical history while amping up student understanding! Napier's Bones are an excellent tool for helping students better understand place value, multi-digit multiplication, and multiples. Our digital version offers step-by-step support and assistance rocketing your students to the next level!
Do You Know My Rod?
In the mystery game, students attempt to find patterns within multiples building their number sense as well as gaining exposure to products.
Possible or Impossible?
In this Guess Who style game, students secretly select a rod and announce 2-multiples, players must determine the mystery rod. But all is not what it seems! This game is bursting with strategy. As students build familiarity, they will begin to identify "possible" and "impossible" combinations and give away information that is sure to stump their opponents!
Patterns
Understanding how numbers are built is a superpower and sure-fire way to build fluency quickly. In this activity, students explore the patterns within multiples using Napier's Bones.
Bone Maze
Can you determine the secret code using your knowledge of multiples? In this activity, teachers provide students with a string of numbers and a path through Napier's Bones. Players must use their problem solving and multiplication knowledge to determine the order of the rods.
The Bone Collector
In this Go Fish style game, students use Napier's Bones as cards and attempt to gain a full set through questioning. Students cannot simply ask for a "3" and instead must question other players using multiples. But be careful! Asking for a bone with "12" might get you a 3-bone, or you could end up with a card you weren't looking for!
Secret Codes
This fun game can be played as a quick warm-up or a long-form game as needed. The leader selects a secret code and organizes their bones. Providing limited information they challenge the class to determine their code. Excellent for building problem solving and deep thinking as well as building fluency with multiplication, Secret Codes will make you forget you are in math class!
Fast Adding
Ready to build some confidence while practicing multiplication and finding challenging products with ease? Fast Adding is the game for you. Using Napier's Bones, students race to find what may seem like a difficult product (such as 87×5). Students will be proud and amazed when they discover they can quickly and easily find the product using only simple addition!
